After the recent mass shooting in Nashville, Tennessee, where three 9-year-old children & three staff at a Christian school were killed, change the ref is renewing its call to have a National Education Strike Against Gun Violence.
This Friday, March 31st, we are asking parents to not send their kids to school and university students to skip in protest of our politicians’ inaction against legislation to prevent gun violence. We learn tragedy after tragedy that it is not a matter of if but when you will encounter gun violence.
Gun violence is the leading cause of death for children in America, this is especially true for black & Latino youth. We cannot continue to wait to protect our babies from this threat and must be prepared to take drastic actions in the name of public safety.
You’ve already heard from lawmakers like republican rep. Tim Burchett said we’re not gonna fix it when asked about the gun deaths in his state of Tennessee this week. Our house speaker McCarthy is happy to discuss movies with reporters but not his plan to save Americans from being shot and killed anywhere from sea to shining sea.
Members of Change the Ref stood with survivors, activists, and House Democrats THIS WEEK to call for gun safety laws and to prioritize the lives of America’s kids and families. The GOP prioritizes attacks on Trans people and public education while refusing to respond to the common factor in every mass shooting: guns.
No parent should fear sending their kid to school nor should any child fear to attend. We call for a national education strike for gun violence prevention because the status quo must change, no longer can we allow the blood of our loved ones to spill as the gun industry and politicians profit.
No longer can we resign ourselves to powerlessness in the face of this existential threat. We must come together and fight for a safer country where children can grow up in the land of the free. Our lawmakers won’t act without public pressure, let’s force them to keep us safe and save lives.
The victims of the Nashville school shooting deserved to live their lives to a natural completion, not be tragically gunned down in the halls of an American school. To the families of KatherineKoonce, 60; Mike Hill, 61; Cynthia Peak, 61; Evelyn Dieckhaus, 9; William Kinney, 9; Hallie Scruggs, 9; May their memories be a blessing. Please consider donating to their victim memorial fund HERE.
The struggle continues…
Change the Ref (CTR) was formed to amplify and support youth efforts and movement building. They use urban art and nonviolent creative confrontation to advocate for the eradication of the gun violence epidemic and to expose elected officials who are bought and paid for by the NRA and gun manufacturers. #NeverAgain
